Very useful as an adjunct source in planning your tripNov 27, 2009
By Ursiform As is typical with this series, it has a lot of pictures coupled with brief descriptions of places in Umbria, and is useful for choosing places you want to see. While the information in the book is solid and helpful, it does not contain the amount of practical detail you can find in wordier guides. (A picture is sometimes worth a thousand words, but a paragraph about a hotel can be worth far more than the three lines in a table this guide offers.)
I have several guides from this series, and have always found them a useful adjunct to a more comprehensive guide. I'm looking at Umbria as an add-on to a trip to Tuscany, and since I already have guides to Tuscany plus the Michelin Guide to Italy I may not buy another guide to Umbria. While I wouldn't advise planning a trip to Italy based only on this guide, it's worth the investment as a supplement to a more practical and less colorful guide.
