We just returned from Tuscany & Umbria and used a friend's Rough Guide to Tuscany & Umbria 5. It was indispensable! User-friendly and entertaining - plus great recommendations for restaurants, pizza, gelato, etc.

I am a seasoned Italian traveler & I have utilized numerous guide books over the years. THE ROUGH GUIDE is by far my favorite. I am not interested in the fancy books w/colorful photos. RG is informative, accurate & includes lodging/sights/ristoranti that aren't just 4-star+ rated (mostly overrated IMHO). I purchase a replacement book each time a new edition is published.
