We are in the process of planning our first trip to Tuscany/Umbria, and have found this book to be "right up our alley" for our planning style. We are destination-oriented - our accomodations and hosts/hostesses are as critical to our enjoyment of a trip as the sights/geography themselves. Author gives very detailed info re each recommended lodging alternative, addressing those questions which most commonly come to mind when selecting lodging. Sketches give you a basic sense of architectural style - however, before booking, we will follow up with web search for each potential location as well.

This publication provides an excellent selection of superior to excellent locations to stay and eat while in Tuscany and Umbria. It also provides a concise touring guide with easy-to-follow highlights as you visit each city. It is ideal for the first-time visitor to these regions of Italy.
